Project

Last Updated on Tuesday, 09 October 2012

A project started in February 2010 to locate the pupils in a class photograph taken in 1959 in Mr Laidler’s class and within a year it had extended to include the full year that left in 1961 - some 80 children.  As more names were suggested the project expanded to its current position, a 50-year study from 1927-1977 and the process of identifying the children and teachers in each of the 400 photographs collected since the project began.  See the Filton Voice magazine for more details on the project – www.filtonvoice.co.uk – April 2012 edition, page 33.

In 2012 the study has increasingly concentrated on finding former children from the photographs.   What happened to over 250 former children of the junior school between 1927 and 1977 has been established and of these, over 150 are in contact.

The project was celebrated at the 85th Anniversary Open Day at Charborough Road Primary School on Saturday 22 September 2012.  The Open Day included a photographic display from the project together with the next 35 years of the school to 2012, memory documents, press material and a tour of the school.

See the photographs displayed in the Historical Photographs section. Some of these include unknown classes, or classes where we know most or all of the children in the photograph and have already contacted some of you, so if you can help or you see yourself in a photograph and have not been contacted please let the project co-ordinator Graham Harris know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
